Thank You #bcbawards2015!

I experienced a good kind of déjà javu last month after I read an email that said that my blog is a finalist in this year's Best of Cebu Blog Awards. Just like in 2014, we are nominated once again for both travel and food categories.

Unlike last year however, I don't know who nominated me this time. Let me first thank the person (or persons) who threw in my blog in the current pool of nominees. Recognitions such as those coming from the #BCBAwards are hard to come by in these parts, so I consider this as a validation of some sort that I probably did something right in 2015.

But just like last year, I still get the same question as to whether "Baktin Corporation" is a food blog or a travel blog or if it is a blog in the first place. I also give out the same explanation every time. And while I do that, I entertain again the temptation to finally spin off my restaurant reviews and focus on long-form travel narratives instead.

While there are certainly advantages to that idea, I rest in the thought that food and travel, at least in my world, will always be delicious twins.You get to know a new destination better when you share a few bottles of the local beer with your cab driver. You will realize that the adobo tastes and looks different depending which part of the Philippines you are currently in. Political ideologies, religious affiliations and language barriers are often blurred when there is unpretentious, good and happy food served on the table.Having said these few examples, I hope my few readers will understand by now why I don't want to chose one niche over the other. Both are simply inseparable for me.Finally, thank you BCBA for the nominations. I am really honored and humbled by this gesture.
